Truffle Making Recount

Truffle Making
Recount

On Friday, November 29th we made truffles. There were
three types of flavors, Apricot, cranberry, chocolate with
raisins. I choose apricot flavor because I have never tasted
Apricot. Of course, we had to wash our hands before we
started doing the ingredients. The people who were in my
group are Zariah, Cleo, Stella, Anna, and Elina, she came
kinda in the middle of making it because she was finishing
off some work.

  • First, we put a cup of dried apricots into Miss Paton's
  • food processor, so we could have it minced beautifully.
Then we added dissociated coconut to the minced apricots.
  • Next we had to pour some condensed milk into the bowl
  • of apricots and coconut. I really wanted to dip my finger
  • into the mixture and put it right in my mouth but I actually
  • did it was so sweet. The truffles and other goodies we
  • have made will be presents for our families for Christmas.

Now it was time for the most sticky part.
We had to roll the mixture into medium size balls.
All together we made 21 apricot truffles like OH MY GOSH.
Miss Paton put all our truffles in the fridge.

On Monday, the next week, we made melted chocolate
for the cover of the Truffles then, later on, Miss Paton went
to take the Truffles out of the fridge and started to dip
them into the melted chocolate but not with our hands
but with a spoon just incase we eat it and put our germs
inside chocolate bowl. Finally, all our truffles were ready
to go into the bags for Christmas. I really enjoyed doing
cooking with Miss Paton

Flower pot

This term in room 1 we were doing gardening. We first had to paint our pot white because it was brown at first, Then we had to draw our designs in our books to give us an idea of what we would like to draw on our pot so I decided to draw something that was melting off the pot. After that we choose what idea of drawing we got and show Miss Paton she would tell us to start drawing. with a pencil. After drawing our design on our flower pot, we then painted our flower pot in the colours that we needed to use. Then we vanished our pot to make the paint last longer and to make it nice and shiny. Lastly,  and finally, we planted two flowers in the pot and now we have water them daily.

Chocolate Making with Room 1

Chocolate Making
Recount

It was unexpected but we had finally made chocolate for
one of our family members. Miss Paton put us in groups.
I was with Rihanne, Deborah and Athena. The flavours
were milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate.
We all sat on a desk and waited for Miss Paton to come
with our chocolate.  I and my group chose the flavour
white chocolate. After the chocolate was melted we all
gathered up at Meron’s table to see what was happening
while they were mixing. Later on, Miss Paton showed us
how to scoop the chocolate and put it into the chocolate
moulds. We all went back to our tables then started to
pour the chocolate into our moulds and also Miss Paton
told us that we could go to other people’s tables and get
use their chocolate. I and my group went to other
people’s table to get the milk chocolate there weren’t
much so we just took as much as we could.

We used a pot and a plate to melt the chocolate. We
put boiled water into our pot. Deborah had an AWESOME
idea in putting the milk chocolate on top of the white
chocolate. After we finished doing that, we saved one
mould for the dark chocolate. no one in my group really
liked dark chocolate, there was only one person that really
loved dark chocolate in the group was me. After all of us
finished putting the chocolate into the trays, me, Lesina,
Meron was helping Miss Paton put the dishes into the
cleaning machine ( I don’t really know what it is called),
but the funny bit was that we ate some of the chocolate
from the plates because it really looked delicious. I hope
Miss Paton does some more cooking with us before
school ends.

Camp Recount

Camp Recount

I was jumping around crazy days before camp. I would none stop talking about it. I was running around finding what I was missing on my list and what I got so my Mum would buy them from the countdown.

It was finally the day. In week 4, Term 4. My Mum woke me up and told me to get ready, put my suitcase and bags into the car so I could be early to school or else I won’t be able to go. Once I got to school Salote and Ana grabbed my bags and suitcase. I went into the hall and sat down for the role, the bus finally arrived and Miss Goodier told us to

We went to Chosen Valley Christan camp and this was my last time having fun with my friends because they are leaving to college, I was really excited to go camping but my mum was the most exciting one. Once we got at Chosen Valley camp I realised nothing had changed from the last time I had come two years ago. We grabbed our stuff from the bus and went into the house for a little meeting about what activity group we are in including the boys and what cabins we are in, even tho they have our names on the doors. In my cabin room was Meron, Huia, Tausala, Athena, Galila, Anna, and me. It was noisy at night and uncomfortable so on the second night, I got to sleep on a regular bed with Salote in another room.

These are the teachers that had come and which activity they were leading in.
CTK teachers:
  • Mel (Uili fam mum) - Go Karting
  • Virginia & Caroline Victor - BMX, Team building, Volleyball
  • Miss Goodier - Archery
  • Miss Kopua - Kayaking
  • Miss Paton - Balance Island
ST Therese teachers:
  • Miss Mcdonalds/Principal of St Therese (I don’t know how to spell it) - Raft building
  •  Miss Dio (don’t know how to spell it) - Confidence course
  • That was all I could get

In my activity group was Tausala, Reyna, Meron, Huia, Ana, Lomi, Matthias, Kanan, Salote. The first activity we had was Balance Island but the funniest part is when Miss Paton fell into the mud, then we did Rope Maze after we finished the balance Island, Kayaking, confidence course, Rafting, Archery, Team building, and last was waterslide. I never went on the water slide because it seemed scary and I thought I would drown. On the first day in the evening, we went for a bushwalk and that’s where I met some of the girls from St Therese.

I remember on the second day in the morning Mrs Kopua allowed us to have time to get to know each other but we had to go in our year levels, we went around the tree in our school line and Miss Dio would have to say stop and we would ask the person in front of each other questions, they are really funny and cool to talk too. When we talked to each other we would laugh and tell each other questions. One girl asked me “what is your fav colour” I replied “blue” but she thought it was red because I was wearing fully red that day.

OH MY GOSH! I forgot about the food well, the food was like something I’ve ever tasted before. I really enjoyed it the food there especially everyone else. We had Pasta, Nachos, Lasagna, dessert after lunch and dinner, and much more, oh and we had biscuits for morning tea. On the last day, we had some jobs to do as in pack our things and put them outside, Spray and wipe the mattress, Vacuum the rooms and the CTK boys and St Therese had to clean the toilet and showers in the outside because they mostly used it. I was so sad that it was my last time saying bye to my new friends from St Therese.

I really appreciated that had come with us, they were very funny and my favourite ones were Ofa, Siana, T.T/Tiffin, Savannah, Leka, Cathy but she’s one of my friends from Taekwondo, Erick was the funniest one because he would roast us, we all laugh crazy, and jump around.

And this was my coolest time ever with St Therese. I really miss them.

Little Red Riding Hood Play

Today for our last week of school Miss Paton got this play from her Univerity. She decided for us to try, it was really funny when Salote/the Wolf doing funny stuff

Retelling the Three Little Pigs

Once upon a time, there were three little pigs. The time came for them to leave home and see their fortunes. Before they left, their mother told them " Whatever you do, do the best that you can, because that's the way to get along in this world”. The first little pig built his house out of straw because it was the easiest thing to use. The second little pig built his house out of sticks. This was a little bit stronger than a straw house. The third little pig built his house out of bricks. One day the big bad wolf, who dearly loved to eat fat little piggies, came along and saw the first little pig in his house made out of straw. He said, "Let me in, Let me in, little pig or I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in!". "Not by the hair on my chinny chin", said the little pig. The wolf blew the house in and the first pig ran to the second pig's house. The wolf then came to the house of sticks. "Let me in, let me in little pig or I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in". "Not by the hair on my chinny chin chin", said the little pig. The wolf blew the house in too. They both ran to the third pig’s house. The wolf then came to the third little pig’s house made out of bricks. " Let me in, let me in" cried the wolf. "Or I'll huff and I'll puff and I’ll BLOW YOUR HOUSE DOWN!". "Not by the hair on my chinny chin chin," said the third little pig. Well, the wolf huffed and puffed but he could not blow down the brick house. The wolf was a sly old wolf and he climbed up onto the roof to look for a way into the brick house. The little pig saw the wolf climb up on the roof and lit a roaring fire in the fireplace. He placed a large kettle of water over the fire. When the wolf finally found the hole in the chimney he crawled down and SPLASH right into the kettle of water. That was the end of his troubles with the big bad wolf and he never came back.

Postcard from Mars

Dear Mum and Dad,

How are you? I’m doing really well on planet Mars. I’m missing you really bad. I wish you came with me to visit Mars.

I heard Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun. It is the second smallest planet in the solar system. It was named after the Roman God of War. Mars is also often described as the “Red Planet” due to its reddish appearance. Its surface is made of a thick layer of oxidized iron dust and rocks of the same colour. Mars has two moons Plobos and Deimos. Plobos (Fear) and Deimos (Panic) were named after the horses that pulled the chariot of the Greek war god Ares, the counterpart to the Roman war god Mars. Both were discovered in 1877.

I’ve learnt that only spacecrafts have visited Mars. The distance from the Sun to Mars is 227.9 million kilometres.

See you when I get back!

Love from,

Toakase

Volcanoes writing

~Volcanoes Writing~

What is a volcano? you say. Well, a volcano is an opening
in a mountain on the Earth's surface. A volcano can knock
down a whole forest. A volcano allows hot lava, ash, and
gas to escape from the magma chamber under the earth’s
surface. When a volcano erupts it lets hot ash. Mudflows,
floods, tsunami’s, and falling rocks can trigger.

Volcanoes are formed when magma within the earth makes
its way up to the surface. A volcano is made from tectonic
plates, which creates magma and it builds up when magma
erupts that is called lava. There are two types of tectonic
plates are called Oceanic and Continental plates.

Volcanoes are classified as active, dormant, extinct.
Active means that one of the volcanoes is able to erupt,
dormant is that when a volcano is sleeping and might
erupt again, extinct means it is likely to not erupt again.
Volcanoes can come in different shapes and sizes, they
mostly look like an upside-down ice cream cones or a ½
circle.

The earth's crust is made up of huge rocks called tectonic
plates. There two plates that surround the Pacific Ocean.
These plates are The Oceanic Plate and the Continental
Plate. When these plates rub together they melt and can
create molten rock. Subduction and friction occur which
causes earthquakes and volcanoes.

There are over 1510 active volcanoes in the world. There are
currently, 80 or more volcanoes are under the ocean. The
The United States ranks number 3rd in the world for the
number of active volcanoes. The United States is behind
Indonesia and Japan for having the most active volcanoes.
The reason there are a large number of volcanoes around
the Pacific is because of the Ring of Fire.

Whetu & Nick

`
Whetu & Nick

I simply love going on trips. On Wednesday I had a fantastic
time at the theatre. Me and the school went to watch Whetu
and Nick at the Vodafone Event Centre in Manukau. I was
so excited to go and watch Whetu and Nick. The show was
alright but one of the fascinating things was that Whetu spoke
Maori throughout the show. I could understand some words
but not really. Nick was really capable to translate what
Whetu was saying into English and performing his own parts.
Nick was walking around until he realised he forgot to
introduce himself. He wanted a hand-shake but instead
Whetu went up to him and did a hongi. A hongi is a traditional
way to greet each other in Maori. Nick thought she was going
to kiss him. Whetu was Maori and Nick was a British man.
The story was about a young Maori girl named Whetu who
met a British man named Nick. Nick was on the search for a
map and Whetu was trying to fly her kite for her people
to see.

Nick looked around and thought that they were lost, so
he grabbed his compass out of his bag and followed the
directions. Whetu was thinking in Maori “What is he doing?".
Nick turned around and saw her face. “Oh sorry, I forgot
you didn’t know how to use one” said Nick. He showed her
how to use one. They bent down and continued walking. I
remembered when Nick was walking. He fell over and a
Tuatara bit him on his foot. He got up and screamed “What
is that thing!?”. Whetu picked up the Tuatara and pat it.
“Why are you touching that thing?” said Nick.

The funniest part was when they were acting within their culture
like women and men do. Nick had a scarf around his
neck. Whetu was asking in Maori “What is that?”. Nick was
so confused until Whetu pointed at the scarf. Nick got up
and was performing how ladies and men do. Then he asked
Whetu to try the ladies. Whetu snatched his scarf out of his
hand and then started acting and making funny faces.

My second funny moment was when they went in a waka and
sailed. Nick was scared so Whetu told him to calm down and
help her blow with the wind Tawhirimatea. Whetu started
singing a lullaby in Maori then Nick fell asleep. Suddenly the
boat stopped and Whetu hopped out. A little while later Nick
woke up and saw that Whetu was not there. He got up and
looked around. Nick got lost and Whetu was hiding behind
the bushes. Nick walked around until Whetu scared him and
he screamed. Then he farted really loud and everyone behind
me, in front of me, and next to me laughed. Whetu looked at
him and was thinking “Wow what was that?". It smelt
so bad”. Whetu again made weird faces once she smelt it.
It was really funny.

Whetu had a kite behind on her back. She pulled it
out and was holding it. Nick asked “What is that?”. Whetu
was playing with it, then Nick said “Is it like an eagle?". He
made noises about how eagles sound.
“May I have a turn?” asked Nick. Whetu gave the kite called
Manatukutuku to Nick. Nick grabbed it and was playing with it
until Tawhirimatea the God of wind used his power and blew it
away. Whetu got mad at Nick and started yelling at him. They
went on a hunt searching for the kite and the map.

When the show finished everyone got up one by
one and left to go to the entrance. My cousin from Saint Therese
came over and hugged me to say goodbye. Some people
were sad because the show ended early. I saw the actors of
Whetu and Nick coming towards us. Everyone ran to them and
asked some questions. Afterwards we took some photos.
I heard that the actor who played Whetu was part Tongan
and part Maori. While we were waiting for our buses to come,
I saw other schools performing the haka in front of the actors.
The haka was great. I was really disappointed that the show
finished so soon. I did enjoy the show and I hope to see another
theatre show soon.
